About

Who are we? We are Mike and Amber DeGrace. photoWe share many similar passions, including enjoying finely crafted beer and homebrewing. I got Mike a homebrew kit for Christmas in 2009 and we’ve been making fermented beverages ever since. For a day job, Mike works as a product design engineer for a juvenile products firm and I am a work at home mom to the two coolest kids in the world. We met at work in 2005, were married in 2007 on the beautiful island of St. Lucia, and have had little humans join us in 2008 and 2009 on this fantastic journey called Life.

What do we do in our spare time? Spare time? What is that!? When we aren’t working, writing, raising kids, and brewing beer, we enjoy traveling. We use to go to a lot of shows pre-babies but that doesn’t happen as often anymore. Music is an integral part of our lives and we are traveling to the Netherlands in April 2011 just for a music festival called Roadburn. That should more than make up for the dearth of shows the past couple years.

What are our goals? Our goal as a family is to live simply. Part of this goal is reducing, reusing, and recycling, and this includes how we handle our homebrewing. We crush our own grain and use as much of the spent grain as possible. Spent grain can be used in baking edibles for humans and our furry friends, can be used as feed for animals, and is excellent for composting. We will be adding posts in the future with recipes and ideas on how to reuse your grains instead of just throwing them away.

What will you find on our page? We will be adding information on brewing equipment, information on ingredients used in brewing recipes, current craft beer news, recipes we are using for both brewing and for cooking with beer, and links to our favorite breweries and beer bloggers. If there are specific questions you have concerning homebrewing or craft beer, send us a message and we’d love to do a post on it!
